: National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company rolling out the new high speed fibre broadband network under the Government’s National Broadband Plan today announced that 2,000 Mayo homes and businesses have made further progress through its high-speed fibre rollout.

In Mayo, there are approximately 37,000 premises in the Intervention Area (IA), which includes homes, farms, commercial businesses and schools. Under the National Broadband Plan, Co Mayo will see an investment of €145M in the new high speed fibre network. This will enable e-learning, remote monitoring of livestock or equipment, e-health initiatives, better energy efficiency in the home, and facilitate increased levels of remote working.

Over 700 premises in NBI’s Belclare deployment area which includes Kilmaine, Shrule and Cong have now completed the engineering survey works phase and will shortly move into the network build phase of the project. Construction has also commenced to deliver high-speed broadband to almost 300 homes, farms and businesses near Finny and Toormakeady in the Maam deployment area.

Works are also at an advanced stage for 1,055 premises near Louisburgh in the Killadoon deployment area with these homes and businesses set to be connected to the NBI high-speed fibre broadband network by the end of 2024.

To keep up with the latest connection dates, Mayo residents can visit the National Broadband Ireland website, which is frequently updated. The easiest way to receive real-time updates on the status of premises during the rollout and availability for order is to sign up for NBI email notifications at /eoi/

TJ Malone, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland Deployment said: “Our teams are working on the ground all over the country and considerable progress has been made on the rollout in Mayo. High-speed fibre broadband is now available to order for 10,487 premises across the county with 2,458 connections made so far. This includes 2,000 premises near Castlebar, 1,800 near Newport, over 2,100 near Ballina and 1,500 in the Carrowmorelacken deployment area.

“We are working hard on the ground to progress other areas of the county through engineering survey and design phases. We are encouraging Mayo residents to visit the NBI website to check their Eircode and sign up for updates.”

As a wholesale network operator, NBI does not sell fibre broadband directly to end users, rather it enables services from a range of broadband providers or Retail Service Providers (RSPs). As a wholesale provider, NBI will make the new Fibre-to-the-Home network available to all RSPs operating in the Intervention Area.

Some 72 RSPs have already signed up to sell services on the National Broadband Ireland network and 68 are certified as ready to start providing connections as of today. To see the retail broadband providers that are currently licensed to sell on the National Broadband Ireland network, visit NBI.ie/buy.

National Broadband Ireland contractors have been on the ground across the country and over 274,261 premises nationwide can order or pre-order broadband on the NBI network so far.

The National Broadband Ireland website is regularly updated to show estimated connection dates. Signing up to the NBI email notifications at /eoi/ is the easiest way to get the most up to date status of premises during the rollout and when premises will be ready for order.

Keep up to Speed!

NBI is encouraging people to check their eligibility and register for updates at nbi.ie to receive regular notifications related to their own premises as works progresses in their area.
