National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company delivering the National Broadband Plan on behalf of the Government of Ireland, has today announced a series of internal promotions for its leadership team, as it prepares for the final stages of its highly successful rollout and transitions to steady-state operations.

The National Broadband Plan is the largest infrastructure project in Ireland since rural electrification. NBI is internationally recognised for being on time, on budget, and exceeding the original policy objectives for the project. Over two-thirds (c.400,000) of the premises in the Government’s Intervention Area are now available for connection, with the balance to be completed during 2026. NBI has welcomed 135,000 connected customers to its new high-speed fibre network, achieving take-up rates that exceed all other international comparisons.

T.J. Malone, who has led the survey, design and build of NBI’s network since the project commenced, serving as the CEO of NBI Deployment, will transition to CEO of NBI. In his new role, T.J. will oversee the long-term operation of the network he has helped to build.

Jenny Fisher, who has held the role of Chief Legal and Administration Officer at NBI, has been promoted to CEO of NBI Deployment, bringing her exceptional track record of governance and oversight to the completion of the network deployment. Sara Lynn is promoted to Chief Legal Officer having served in the business since 2020, most recently as NBI’s Head of Legal.

As part of this planned leadership transition, Peter Hendrick, who has served as NBI’s Chief Executive Officer since its inception and is a founding shareholder in the business, will remain involved in the Project as both a shareholder and non-executive director having been appointed to the Board of Directors. Peter has played a pivotal role in mobilising NBI after it was awarded the contract to deliver Ireland’s National Broadband Plan in 2019, and he will continue to contribute his insight and experience to NBI.

These changes will take immediate effect supported by the continuing involvement and availability of incumbents in each role to ensure a seamless transition.

Commenting on these appointments, David McCourt, founder and Chairman of NBI, said: “NBI’s highly successful track record delivering Ireland’s National Broadband Plan has been made possible by our ability to attract and retain some of the best and brightest minds in global telecoms. On behalf of the directors, we are delighted to add Peter’s strategic vision to the Board, and provide new opportunities for T.J., Jenny and Sara. Our leadership at NBI is one of the most talented I’ve ever had the pleasure to work alongside, and these latest appointments are testament to our commitment to continue developing our team.

“As we continue to make great strides in the final stages of our rollout and prepare to operate our world-class national network for the next 25 years and beyond, we’re delighted to be providing fresh opportunities for people who have made and continue to make this project a success to-date.”
