Over 1,600 Clare homes, businesses and farms will soon be able to connect to fibre broadband on NBI™ network
Almost 13,000 premises in County Clare can avail of a high-speed connection today
National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company delivering the new future-proofed, high-speed Fibre-to-the-Home network under the National Broadband Plan on behalf of the Government, has said that over 1,600 Clareproperties in its Labasheeda deployment area will soon be able to connect to its high-speed fibre broadband network. This includes the rural areas and townlands such as Kilmurry, Kildysart and Kilmihil.
23,000 premises in County Clare are included in the State’s Intervention Area, with NBI’s infrastructure capable of delivering minimum broadband speeds of 500 megabits per second to homes, businesses, farms, and schools. As the biggest investment in rural Ireland since rural electrification, County Clare will receive €89m of Government investment under the National Broadband Plan.
As part of a nationwide acceleration of the National Broadband Plan, 1,615 premises near Labasheeda are set to benefit from earlier access to high-speed fibre broadband. These homes, farms, and businesses are among 32,000 premises across Ireland that have been brought forward from 2026 to 2025 in National Broadband Ireland’s delivery schedule. Rural homes, farms and businesses in the Labasheeda deployment will now be able to place an order for connection to the NBI™ network in the coming months.
Network build works are also underway along the west coast of Clare, covering 5,277 premises across the Loop Head peninsula and rural areas near Kilrush and Miltown Malbay. These premises are on track to be ready for connection in the second half of 2026.
Works have already been completed in other parts of Clare including the rural surrounds of Corofin and Kilkishen. There is a total of 12,790 premises that can now pre-order or order high-speed, reliable broadband across the county with 5,075 connections made so far. The easiest way to get updates on when a home or business will be ready to order is by signing up for NBI email alerts at nbi.ie/eoi/.
Peter Hendrick, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland, said: “We’re delighted to be entering the final phase of delivery in the Labasheeda deployment area, where 1,615 homes and businesses will gain access to high-speed fibre broadband in the coming months.
“This will be an important milestone for the area, enabling remote working, online learning, and digital services for local communities. We’re encouraging everyone living in rural parts of County Clare to check their Eircode and place an order as soon as services become available.”
National Rollout Progress
NBI has now passed nearly 374,000 homes, farms and businesses in rural Ireland with over 131,000 now connected to high-speed broadband. Take-up rates already average 35% and continue to climb, approaching 60% in areas where the network has been live the longest.
Broadband Provider Choice
As a wholesale network operator, NBI does not sell fibre broadband directly to end users, rather it enables services from a range of broadband providers. Over 50 different broadband providers are currently licensed to sell on the NBI™ network – visit NBI.ie/buy to see the range of providers in your area.
Signing up to the NBI email notifications at /eoi/ is the easiest way to get the most up to date status of premises during the rollout and when premises will be ready for order.
Broadband Connection Points
The NBP provides for the delivery of Broadband Connection Points (BCPs) which include sports clubs, community centres and tourist sites, with these locations providing free public access to high-speed internet in the rollout area. In addition to the Fibre-to-the-Home programme, BCPs pave the way for rural communities to receive the benefits of broadband, from mobile working, e-learning and mobile banking, to digital tourism.
Nationwide, 955 BCPs are now ‘live’. You can view BCP locations at www.nbi.ie/bcp-map/.
Examples of Broadband Connection Points in County Clare include Loop Head Lighthouse and Visitor Centre, Michael Cusack Visitor Centre and Loughraney Kids Playschool.
Primary schools in the Intervention Area are also now connected for educational access as part of the NBP.
