Over 16,500 homes, businesses and farms in Cavan and Monaghan can avail of a high-speed connection today

National Broadband Ireland, the company delivering the new future-proofed, high-speed Fibre-to-the-Home network under the National Broadband Plan on behalf of the Government, has said that over 3,500 premises in the Cootehill deployment area which covers parts of both Cavan and Monaghan will be able to connect to its high-speed fibre broadband network by winter this year.

In Cavan, there are approximately 17,000 premises in the Intervention Area (IA) whilst there are approximately 16,000 premises in the Intervention Area (IA) in Monaghan. Under the National Broadband Plan, County Cavan will see an investment of €65M and County Monaghan will see €60M in the new high speed fibre network. This will enable e-learning, remote monitoring of livestock or equipment, e-health initiatives, better energy efficiency in the home, and facilitate increased levels of remote working.

Construction works are underway to connect 2,037 premises in Cavan and 1,529 premises in Monaghan, which are all included in NBI’s Cootehill deployment area. Broadband on NBI’s high-speed network is expected to be available to these homes, farms and businesses between October and December later this year. National Broadband Ireland is calling on people living near Cootehill to visit nbi.ie/eoi to sign up for notifications on when they will be able be able to order a high-speed fibre broadband connection.

Works have already been completed in other parts of Cavan and Monaghan and there are currently 6,761 premises in Cavan and 9,899 premises in Monaghan that can order or pre-order high-speed, reliable broadband today. People living and working in either county can visit nbi.ie/map/ and enter their Eircode to see if they are ready to connect.

Progress on the rollout continues across both counties with initial surveying works almost fully complete and construction works under way across many areas of Cavan and Monaghan. National Broadband Ireland’s website is regularly updated to show estimated connection dates. Signing up to the NBI email notifications at /eoi/  is the easiest way to get the most up-to-date status of premises during the rollout and when premises will be ready for order.

Peter Hendrick, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland, said: We are delighted to announce that homes and business in rural areas surrounding Cootehill will be able to order high-speed broadband services through the National Broadband Ireland network by the end of this year. This will enable users to experience the life-changing benefits that high-speed broadband provides.”

We would encourage people living in those areas to visit nbi.ie to see if they can place an order for a high-speed connection on the NBI network.”

Broadband Connection Points

In advance of the Fibre-to-the-Home rollout, the NBP provides for the delivery of Broadband Connection Points (BCPs) nationwide. 955 of these sites, including Public BCPs, are now ‘live’. Public BCPs – which include sports clubs, community centres and tourist sites – will provide free public access to high-speed internet in the rollout area. Other BCP categories include schools and marts.

BCPs will pave the way for rural communities to receive the benefits of broadband, from mobile working, e-learning and mobile banking, to digital tourism. You can view BCPs at www.nbi.ie/bcp-map/. An example of some of the locations of Broadband Connection Points in Monaghan include Tullycorbet Community Centre, Corcaghan Community Centre and The Wetlands Centre. Primary schools in the Intervention Area are also being connected for educational access as part of the NBP.
