Sligo Motor Group latest to connect as over 150,000 premises now live nationwide

On World Telecommunication Day, today (Wednesday), National Broadband Ireland (NBI) has announced that it has now connected 40,000 homes, farms and businesses under the National Broadband Plan (NBP). With high speed fibre connections available to over 150,000 premises across the country, the company marked the latest milestone in the NBP rollout in Sligo. World Telecommunication Day promotes universal connectivity and digital transformation.

Peter Hendrick, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland, said: “As we mark World Telecommunications Day 2023, NBI has reached a new milestone of 40,000 connections on our high speed fibre network. With the number of premises that can now order NBI high speed fibre at over 150,000, we urge those who can connect to the network, to do so, by signing up with one of our 62 retail partners.

“This significant progress means that more and more customers are experiencing the transformational power of minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second whether you are a family needing to work, study and access entertainment online all at the same time, or a business owner wanting to expand.

“In Sligo, almost 20% of the rollout is complete with almost 3,000 premises ready to connect. I encourage County Sligo residents to visit nbi.ie and check their Eircode to find out if they are one of those premises and sign up for updates.”

Lorraine Gribbons, Managing Director of Fastcom, the Sligo-based broadband provider, said:

“We are thrilled to deliver this milestone connection, in conjunction with NBI, to Connolly Motor Group Sligo. This highlights our commitment to delivering exceptional broadband services to our customer base, not only here in Sligo, but all over the country through our continued partnership with NBI.

“This ground-breaking 40,000th connection opens up a world of possibilities for Connolly Motor Group Sligo and businesses throughout the country. They can now tap into the full potential of high-speed fibre to the premises’ connectivity, revolutionising their operations, increasing productivity, and seizing new growth opportunities. Fastcom is proud to be part of this transformative journey, delivering high-speed broadband connections that empower businesses to thrive in the digital age.”

Marcus Jackson, Connolly Motor Group, Carraroe Sligo General Manager, said:

“Connolly Motor Group are delighted to now be connected to NBI broadband through Fastcom. Like businesses all over Ireland, we are heavily reliant on broadband and the fast connection is crucial for daily operations of the business. High-speed fibre broadband has become extremely efficient, especially in this digital age, in the day-to-day running of the company, and most importantly, it’s crucial our customers can experience a fast connection. We understand the importance of being able to connect with our customers both in the dealership, through online payments and booking their vehicle in for a service. We look forward to utilising the new high speed fibre broadband from NBI for our family business.”
