High speed connectivity on the way as almost 5,000 premises in Athenry and Gort complete build works
National Broadband Ireland, the company delivering the new future-proofed, high-speed Fibre-to-the-Home network under the National Broadband Plan on behalf of the Government, has announced that almost 5,000 premises in Athenry and Gort are available to order or pre-order broadband on the National Broadband Ireland network.
Over 40,000 premises in County Galway are included in the State’s Intervention Area, which will see National Broadband Ireland deliver minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second to homes, businesses, farms and schools. As the biggest investment in rural Ireland since rural electrification, County Galway will receive €153m of Government investment under the NBP.
The National Broadband Ireland network is now live in Athenry where 2,497 premises can place an order for high-speed broadband and also in Gort where 2,445 homes, businesses and farms can join the network. This brings the total number of premises in Galway that can order broadband from a National Broadband Ireland provider to just over 10,500.
As a wholesale network operator, National Broadband Ireland does not sell fibre broadband directly to end users, rather it enables services from a range of broadband providers or Retail Service Providers (RSPs). As a wholesale provider, National Broadband Ireland will make the new Fibre-to-the-Home network available to all RSPs operating in the Intervention Area.
Some 57 RSPs have already signed up to sell services on the National Broadband Ireland network and 44 are certified as ready to start providing connections as of today. Peter Hendrick, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland, said: “We are delighted to announce that premises in Athenry and Gort can now order or pre-order broadband services through the National Broadband Ireland network. This will enable users to experience the life-changing benefits that high-speed broadband provides.”
The website is regularly updated to show estimated connection dates. Signing up to the National Broadband Ireland email notifications at /eoi/ is the easiest way to get the most up to date status of premises during the rollout and when premises will be ready for order.
Under the National Broadband Plan, 559,000 premises nationwide are included in the Intervention Area, which was established by the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications to identify areas where commercial operators are not currently providing access to high-speed broadband or do not intend to.
Keep up to Speed!
