High speed connectivity on the way as 4,300 premises in Ballycarney see build works commence

National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company delivering the new future-proofed, high-speed Fibre-to-the-Home network under the National Broadband Plan (NBP) on behalf of the Government, has announced that almost 4,300 premises in Ballycarney are now in the build phase of the rollout and will soon be available for pre-order.

Over 23,000 premises in County Wexford are included in the State’s Intervention Area, which will see NBI deliver minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second to homes, businesses, farms and schools. As the biggest investment in rural Ireland since rural electrification, County Wexford will receive €88m of Government investment under the NBP.

Having successfully completed the Survey and Design phase of the project, 4,291 premises in Ballycarney are now under construction to have high-speed fibre delivered in early spring next year. This brings the total number of premises across Wexford under construction to over 7,600.

Build works have already been completed in other parts of Wexford and there are over 3,500 premises that are available to order or pre-order broadband in the county.

The website is regularly updated to show estimated connection dates. Signing up to the NBI email notifications at /eoi/ is the easiest way to get the most up to date status of premises during the rollout and when premises will be ready for order.

Peter Hendrick, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland said: “Our teams continue to work on the rollout plan and substantial progress has been made from surveying, design, build to connection works.”

He continued: “We are confident that the rollout will continue to gather pace as our ability to move premises from the construction phase to the order phase ramps up.  We are currently working closely with retail service providers, and other stakeholders, to connect homes in County Wexford. Minimum speeds of 500Mbps will be available.

“Our mission is to end the digital divide across the country. Digital connectivity is critical to many of our activities, and this new Fibre-to-the-Home network, will be a key enabler for the sustainability of local businesses and communities.”

Keep up to Speed!   NBI is encouraging people to check their eligibility and register for updates at www.nbi.ie to receive regular notifications related to their own premises as works progresses in their area.
