National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company delivering the National Broadband Plan (NBP) on behalf of the Government, is pleased to confirm that up to 55,000 premises in 22 counties are now available to order and pre-order connection with their preferred retail service provider (RSP) on the new high-speed fibre broadband network.

As of today, high-speed fibre broadband is available to order and pre-order across 22 counties including Carlow, Clare, Cavan, Cork, Galway, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Louth, Monaghan, Roscommon, Sligo, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford, and Wicklow.

As the National Broadband Plan progresses, additional towns including Ballina, Blessington, Castlebar, Gort, Killarney, Mullingar and Clonmel will be available to order by the end of February.

As a wholesale network operator, NBI does not sell fibre broadband directly to end users, rather it enables services from a range of broadband providers or Retail Service Providers (RSPs). As a wholesale provider, NBI will make the new Fibre-to-the-Home network available to all RSPs operating in the Intervention Area.

Customers in the Deployment Areas can now order high-speed broadband services from their retail service providers (RSPs) of choice. Some 50 retail service providers (RSPs) have already signed up to sell services on the NBI network. This is expected to bring significant benefits directly to consumers and businesses. Competition between RSPs affords choice for end users which will ensure quality bundled packages offer consumers choice around voice, broadband, TV and mobile at competitive prices.

Peter Hendrick, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland said: “At National Broadband Ireland we are delighted to be able to offer up to 55,000 premises across 22 counties the opportunity to order and pre-order connections to the new high-speed fibre broadband network.”

“We will continue to build upon the progress we have made to-date as an increasing number of homes and businesses are connected. With surveys completed for approximately 55% of the entire Intervention Area, over 252,000 designs completed, and over 150,000 premises already constructed or currently under construction, we are seeing the rollout gathering significant pace. We have the best and brightest minds working tirelessly on the rollout to deliver the National Broadband Plan as quickly as possible.”

“This project is of vital importance in providing equal opportunities to people and communities across the country, and will help to promote and support social progress, equality and sustainability. We can expect to see numerous announcements in the coming period of further live connections.”

National Broadband Ireland is actively working in all counties to survey, design and build the new high-speed, Fibre-to-the-Home network, which will connect over 1.1 million people and over 554,000 premises in the project’s Intervention Area.
